Volunteer Opportunities at Mountin' Hopes'

Please contact our Program Coordinator, Rebecca Anderson for more information concerning items on this page and for our next scheduled Volunteer Orientation. Orientations for volunteers are usually held at the end of each six week session, but please contact the office for specifics as there may be changes due to class schedule. For a person with special needs, just a one hour class each week can make a real difference. As a volunteer, so will you.

Here are some ways you can get involved:

Assist with riding classes and horse care, general responsibilities include:

  • Bring in horses from the pasture as needed
  • Help our riders to groom and tack their horses
  • Assist the instructor during the mounting process
  • Lead the horse and rider OR walk beside a mounted rider
  • Clean stalls, tack room, & barn area
  • Feed and water horses

Volunteer Sidewalker Job Description

Volunteers interested in the above need to be in generally good health and able to walk for 30 minutes or more during class, as well as, jog for short distances while the horse trots. Volunteers commit to about 90minutes on the same time and day each week. There is a wide-range of class days/times to choose from.

Help with farm work and property management

  • Mow grass

How to get started

  1. Download and print these forms: Volunteer Application, Confidentiality Form, Authorization for Emergency Medical Treatment
  2. Complete each form in its entirety and mail to Rebecca Anderson at Mountin' Hopes, PO Box 387, Mars Hill, NC 28754. or, you can also bring the completed forms to your training/orientation at Mountin' Hopes. ( They MUST be signed by a parent or guardian if you are under the age of 18.)

Individuals desiring to help with riding classes must attend our Volunteer Orientation sessions before becoming a volunteer in class. All volunteers are encouraged to attend, as there is a good deal to learn about Mountin' Hopes.
